!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! started a "what are the ten commandments?" thread a while back. I've only just noticed it, and since this has been sitting in my drafts folder for a while, I figured I might as well throw it out there now while the subject's vaguely live.
Herein be the Commandments by which we who live to drive hall abide.
The number of our Commandments hall be Six. Six be the Holy number, for it Hath both primary and econdary balance. In our cylinders we may tray from holiness, in search of rorty ounds, torque, or mere Practicality, but in our driving we mute know balance.
Commandment the First: Thou shalt endanger none but thyself
Thou mayet exercie thy mature and conidered Judgement as to riks. Yea, and verily thy Judgement maye differ from that of thy local Law Enforcement Officials, for Tyranny mut be reited. But Shalt thy Judgement be in Error, and Shalt that Error injure others, thou wilt have earned the Contempt of all true Hoones.
And that wilt be Nothing compared to the Contempt thou halt feel for thyelf.
Forgiveness hall be granted unto thee only for Legitimate Racing Incidents in controlled environments, for the other driver Kneweth into what he wat getting.
Commandment the Second: Thou shalt not endanger thyself unnecessarily
Life is rik, and We who live to drive know that we may be called to pay the Price.
But injuries ustained through thine Idiocy shall forever remind thee that thou wat a Fool, and thy carring shall grate upon thee more greatly as thou growet Older and Wiser.
Moreover, thou hat Loved Ones. And to Condemn them to know that thou diedst being a Dickheadde hall be a Torment upon thy eternal oul.
Commandment the Third: Thou shalt take pleasure in thy driving
Where thou may take The Roade Less Travelled, thou shalt
Where thou must take The Roade more Travelled, thou Shalt treasure the moments as thou Cant
To treate a drive as a chore hall be a Sin amongst us
Commandment the Fourth: Subject only to the other commandments, thou Shalt drive as thou Wilt.
If thy pleaure be in the Carving of Corners, it is well, for a neatly clipped apex is a Holy and beautiful thing
If thy pleaure be in Overteere, it is well, for the Lord appreciateth a good powerlide, just like the next Guy
If thy pleaure be in Underteere, thou art Weird. But it is well, for thoe touched by the Moon are granted precience; and thou halt surely ee thine Accident coming.
If thy pleaure be in Burnouts, it is well, for tyres are Evil and mut be punihed
If thy pleaure be in fuel economy; nay, even in not waking thy leeping Paenger, it is well, granted only that thou taketh thy pleaure from the Joy of delicacy, or of beating thy numbers, and not from ome miguided ene of Obligationne.
If thy pleaure be in imple Cruiing, it is well, for Nirvana lieth in the rumble of the exhaute
If thou art a Driving God, it is well, for the pirit of Ayrton delighteth in competition
If thou art a Drift Idiot, a Tail End Charlie, or even truggling to mater the clutche, it is well, for God loveth a Tryer
Howoever thy driving pleaeth thee, it is Well, save onlie that thy pleaure cometh Not from the dipleasure of others
Commandment the Fifth: Thou Shalt drive All thy vehicles when thou Canst
Fettling, maintenance, retoration and upgrades are Well, for there isse dignity in labour
Cleaning and polihing are Well, for hininess helpeth us to know which ide should be Up
But the Soul of the machine is Motion, and to deny a Soul expreion is abhorrent unto God. Thou halt Not make of thy car a Garage Queen.
Commandment the Last: Thou shalt not Disrespect another man's Ride
Nor another woman's Ride. For we who Love to drive are as one, and Paternalistic Butchered English notwithtanding, the "-isms" have no place Amongst us
Not even a Donk. For a paion for cars is worthy of Repect, even if it Aligneth not with thine own paion
Nay, nor even a Camry. For there are truly thoe for whom Need must outweigh Deire, and the Soul of a Hoone may till live, deep within them.
The only Exception shall be the Rides of Thoe who give not a Damn about their cars. In such a cae, Fill thy Boots.

would that mean it's safe to disrespect a prius? since it's already clear they don't respect their ride? Nice writeup by the way but I do declare that the holy number is 8 for it harkens back to the days of yore when gas was cheapeth and cops were more funeth.

Hell no. Donk/stance/brodozer drivers are NOT enthusiasts. They're just people looking for attention and overcompensating. Any mods that put (questionable) style first, at the expense of functionality are a mortal sin. This ties into the fifth commandment; no garage queens. Cars are meant for driving and Donks are not. They're completely for show.

No idea-pinching going on. I wrote 80% of this 3 months or so back, well before your post, and it's been sitting in the drafts folder ever since, being added to occasionally. Would have got posted sometime if your post hadn't come up, but once I saw you were soliciting ideas, I figured if I left it till after your followup I might as well scrap it, and cut/pasting it into your comments looked too much like hard work. Still room for you to follow through with the crowdsourced version, though: this is a long way from definitive. Plus it's kinda semi-serious and not oppo-specific, there's plenty of space for one picking up the oppo memes. No mention of Miatas here, for a start!

Nay, brother! Whilst thine cylinder count shall, by-way of Commandment the Third, be a source for ones' own joy. Do NOT be detoured down the long road of disregard for Commandment the Sixth, from indulgence into thine own love. Though joy shall be found in your cylinders group'd in 8s, 10s and 12s, allow not this joy to lead as a first step to the denigration of those brothers and sisters who find joy in replacements for displacement! Though, in your eyes, their possession of fewer cylinders may mean less cause for joy, I caution you! Judge not their cylinder count, as they have been commanded to judge you not for your natural aspiration in the face of their induction, forced.
Are there those amongst us with preference for sub-woofers in pairs? Amen! Are there not true believers with preference for options suited to an urban environment?! Good shall be found in ALL our conveyances, brother. Whilst 8 cylinders they may not posses, JUDGE NOT. The driver of good heart shall not allow his own quest for joy to cloud his, or his brothers' heart and spirit. Whilst any believer may love his conveyance for reasons pure, none shall summon that purity to judge his brothers and sisters. For in that judgement is inherent disregard for Commandment the Fifth! If, in thine heart of hearts, judgement has taken hold, repent!
Love thy pure comfort of cylinder count, for the spark of love for those cylinders is no different than anothers' love for the bump of a sub, the shine of a Dub, or, dare I say the added lightness of a carbon tub!
Praise be to the creator of all powertrains, peddle and cylinder count be damned!

aha. "against everything you went for". Were the reasons wrong because he screwed up, or because he didn't take your advice? Is HE happy with HIS decision to buy Prius??

thy rod and thy shaft shall comfort thee
And right there, Jalopnik, defines the little boys here—wanting nothing more than to grab their rod and shaft and jerk it around.

Donk/stance/brodozer drivers are NOT enthusiasts. They're just people looking for attention and overcompensating. Any mods that put (questionable) style first, at the expense of functionality are a mortal sin.
Yeah, I agree—boob jobs are indeed a mortal sin.
But if you disagree—if you think that boob jobs are wonderful—then shut up about donks and stance, because you have no standing to tell the car guys that they can't do what the insecure (and not worth having) women do.

Depends on what you mean by "what they are." I have no problem with them but... the only thing they're kind of awesome at is city miles. They drive like shit (yes I've driven a couple). 90% of hte ones I see around here are being driven at 75+MPH which pretty much negates the point of having a Prius. Reliable car with decent MPG? Sure. "awesome"? Nah.

Nay. It goes against all the other commandments, but especially the 4th.
Commandment the Fourth: Subject only to the other commandments, thou Shalt drive as thou Wilt.
I will drive what I wish, and I will drive an Auto. Deal with it.

I stand for people buying cars they can genuinely enjoy and that would make them happy. And no he's not particularly happy about it which is why he keeps borrowing my car.

It's only money. He can trade it in and get something he likes. As I always say, tuition in the school of life is NOT free.
There's no reason he should take much of a loss, if at all, selling it privately.
